POSTPONED: Fifth Annual TTFO Temple & Family History Day (2020)

EVENT POSTPONED: Due to circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve postponed our April 18th presentation with Steve Rockwood. Steve has graciously agreed to speak to us in the fall. Details TBA.

We are excited to hear from Steve Rockwood this year for our annual family event commemorating Theodore Turley’s April birthday. Steve is the president and chief executive officer of FamilySearch International. He is a good friend of our president, Luana Rogers, and has also worked closely with fellow Theodore Turley descendant Richard E. Turley, Jr.

Steve has led FamilySearch International since 2015. He gives keynote addresses every year at the annual RootsTech genealogy conference in Salt Lake City, and you can view recordings of those sessions at the RootsTech website.

(For those unable to travel to Salt Lake City, we will try to have a livestream option for the presentation. Stay tuned for details. We will also post audio and a transcript on the website.)

When: Details TBA.

Where: Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City (35 N West Temple, Salt Lake City, UT, 84150).

Fourth Annual TTFO Temple and Family History Day (2019)

Our fourth annual TTFO Temple and Family History Day was held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City. We had two featured speakers for our presentation this year: Richard E. Turley, Jr., and David R. Turley II. David offered a combination travelogue and summarized history lesson from last October’s TTFO field trip to San Bernardino, California. Rick’s remarks were titled, “And You Thought Family History Was Boring.”

Biographical Info
Richard E. Turley, Jr., is the current managing director of the Public Affairs Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rick has been researching the life of Theodore Turley ever since his undergraduate days and has been working on a biography of Theodore for decades. He is currently putting together a collection of facsimiles, transcriptions, and descriptions of documents related to the life of Theodore called the Theodore Turley Papers. Read more about Rick at the Church Newsroom.

David R. Turley II is Rick’s nephew and research assistant. He is also a co-editor on the Theodore Turley Papers project with Rick and Ann Laemmlen Lewis. David has been an invaluable asset to our organization, giving historical presentations on our field trips to both Beaver, Utah, and San Bernardino, California. David recently helmed the project to raise money for the headstone of Ann Smith Tolton, grandmother of Clara Ann Tolton Turley (Isaac Turley’s second wife). That headstone will be placed later this year.

Rick and David are both descendants of Theodore Turley through Theodore’s son, Isaac.
